Becoming a Graphic Designer

 

Graphic designers usually require a bachelor's degree in graphic designing or a corresponding related discipline. Students interested in graphic designing should take various art and technical courses, if available, prior to enrolling in a formal degree course. Many bachelors degrees programs demand that students complete a full year of specialized art and graphic designing courses before being accepted into a formal degree program. A year of college classes and related reading is usually required before the Bachelor's degree coursework is completed. It's also recommended that graphic designers take at least one year of an internship in a local office or firm before they enter the workforce.

A graphic designer who wishes to specialize may obtain an Associate of Science in Graphic Design, which typically takes two years to complete. Many universities offer this degree. An Associate of Arts in Graphic Design covers a variety of subjects and will usually take longer to complete than the typical Bachelor of Science in graphic designing. Art directors often go on to receive a Master's degrees or Ph.D.s in order to continue their work as art directors, designers, or artists.

There are many areas of graphic design, including software art design, sketches, line art, print design, illustration, computer aided drawing, and computer aided drawing. Software art design is the use of digital media such as video games, films, and television to create artworks. Sketching is the process of creating digital models from basic shapes and images. Line art is used to create images that are usually used to provide a background for drawings and paintings. Print work done in ink and brush can be illustrated using collage techniques.

Illustration is the process of utilizing design software to draw and sketch designs. Other graphic designers work with text to create paragraphs, words, and other types of designs. The uses for these types of designers also include the creation of logos and company slogans. Computer aided drawing (CAD) is a way to create complex three dimensional images through the use of computer programs. Other types of design software include drafting and graphics software.

Before starting the graphic designer job process it is important to do research on the different programs, school, and schools offered for a graphic designer. After completing a graphic designer school they should also learn how to market themselves through advertisements in publications and design websites. It is important for the graphic designer to know what type of skills they have learned and what type of schools they have graduated from. The user research should be completed to find the best graphic designer school for them.

If someone has only ever had one job as a designer then they may want to focus on the field as a whole first. This way they will know which industries hire in the graphic design field, and they will know the competition for jobs and what the salary ranges are. Once they know which industries hire in the field of graphic design then they can research the schools and find out what certifications they have and what kinds of courses they teach. Once they have found the perfect school for their first job as a designer then they should apply for the job at the first company that applies to them. When they get accepted into the company they should start to learn about the processes that they will be doing during their job, the type of materials they will be using, and the steps that they will be taking to get the project finished. When they have their first job as a graphic designer, they will be under pressure to do all of the things that they did in their education and training session at the school.

Some graphic designers work in advertising and even in the fashion industry, though there are others who do quite well working with both fields. They have to learn about the different ways to present the information that they are creating so that the message that they are creating is as clear and artistic as possible. Once the designer learns how to present the information clearly, they have to make sure that they are following the guidelines that they have been given regarding the way that they are presenting the information. If they are not following the guidelines then they risk having the job revoked.

The creative world of graphic designers is exciting because they can use computer software to create visual presentations that are amazing. These visual presentations are able to attract many clients who will then purchase the services of the designer. Once the graphic designers to create visual presentations they have to be able to use all of their knowledge to present them in such a way as to persuade the people that they are a great creative artist. When they get hired by a company, they have to make sure that they are always thinking of the next job as they will always be working with new clients.
